Join us as we end mass incarceration by building community generational wealth and health.

Message from the NuLeadership Village!

Dear Friends & Community,

We are thrilled to share some exciting updates and invite you to roll up your sleeves and join us in building a NuLegacy for all!

We just purchased 20 acres of land in Enfield, New York, 15 minutes west of downtown Ithaca!!!

We’re proudly calling it 'The People's Land,' a transformative site that will be home to the NuLegacy Center for Earth and Human Wellness — a beacon for self determination and cooperation. Here, we envision a space that transcends traditional boundaries, encompassing cooperatively owned transitional and long-term housing, a healing & wellness retreat center, expansive farmland, and dedicated education space. We extend heartfelt gratitude to Chad and Tenah Dyer of Future Allies, whose partnership and love has made this ambitious endeavor possible!

Together, we will build from the ground up, fostering a cooperative spirit that transcends mere construction. Through this process, the community will undergo comprehensive training, acquiring diverse skills in construction, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, land stewardship, farming, food justice, environmental justice, political education, and land and community sovereignty. 'The People's Land' is more than a physical space; it is a testament to our commitment to cooperative growth, community resilience, and holistic well-being.

What's Coming To Life!

What's Coming To Life!

WHAT’S COMING TO LIFE!

As 'The People's Land' takes shape, the journey ahead involves extensive repurposing, construction, and enhancements to transform the land into a thriving space for NuLegacy's vision to unfold!

  • LAND GRADING/LEVELING THE LAND

  • REPURPOSING STRUCTURE FOR EQUIPMENT

  • BUILDING TINY HOUSES FOR LAND STEWARDS, VOLUNTEERS & GUESTS

  • INSTALLING A WELL

  • SOLAR SYSTEM INSTALLATION

  • INSTALLING A SEPTIC SYSTEM

  • GETTING TRANSPORTATION FOR OUR TEAM

  • HIRING EXPERTS

STEP 1: LEVELING THE LAND

The first step in our journey involves leveling the ground! This foundational process is necessary for us to plan activities such as camping and repurposing vital structures for everyday use. Our goal is to level 3 acres of land immediately for us to have as a working base for tiny houses and hosting camping trips for our community!

You can help us do this by becoming a “Ground Breaker” donor and/or volunteer!

  • Our goal is to level 3 acres ( 130,680 square feet) of land immediately

  • In total we’re aiming to level 5 acres (217,800 square feet)

  • Leveling 1000-2000 sq ft. on average cost $3000

  • 1 acre = 43,560 Square Feet = leveling cost $50,000 approx.

COST: $50,000 (per acre)

STEP 2: REPURPOSING STRUCTURE FOR STORAGE

We need to safely store our tools and equipment! What better way to do so, than using what’s already on the land 🤓

Transforming a cinder block structure is not just about repurposing; it's about creating a secure space for our tools and camping equipment. This revamped building will stand as a safeguard for our essential gear, ensuring our tools are always ready to support the practical aspects of our mission like camping, farming, and other land care.

You can help us do this by becoming a “Block Builder” donor and/or volunteer!

COST: $30,000

  • Our goal is to repurpose the current cinder block structure already on the land

  • Raw material cost for wood, sheet rock, paint, insulation materials, etc.

  • Permits and other needed documents

  • Hiring licensed professionals/architects

STEP 3: BUILDING TINY HOUSES FOR LAND STEWARDS, VILLAGE & GUESTS

Constructing tiny homes to house our land stewards, guest experts, and volunteers serves as a pivotal element in fostering a sustainable and thriving community. These tiny houses will serve as our "work and think places" as we work and learn from the land!

Your support in building these tiny homes is instrumental in creating a space that not only harmonizes with the natural surroundings but also cultivates a sense of community, fostering unity and sustainable living practices.

You can become a “Space Pioneer” donor and/or volunteer to help us accomplish this!

COST: $400,000 (for 4 Tiny Houses)

  • Our goal is to immediately create 4 tiny houses for our land stewards and guests

  • Raw material cost for landscaping properties and building houses

  • Installing needed utilities for guests use

  • Permits and other needed documents

  • Furnishing homes with minimalistic but needed necessities

  • Each house cost and average of $100,000 to construct

STEP 4: INSTALLING A WELL

We need to install a well to access groundwater! While we are working with local experts to select and install a well site, we are even more excited to have our team and village members learn about how a well works! On-site and together - the best way to learn!

A reliable water source is vital for successful farming, nourishing our community and supporting our vision of a self-sufficient and thriving community.

You can help us do this by becoming a “Well Wisher” donor and/or volunteer!

COST: $12,000

  • Drilling per foot cost, averaging at $30 per ft

  • Sourcing and gathering quality materials like pump and pump system

  • Permits and other needed documents

  • Water testing to ensure the well water meets safety standards

STEP 5: SOLAR SYSTEM INSTALLATION

Installing a solar system signifies our dedication to an eco-friendly and self-sufficient power source, paving the way for a brighter, greener future. By embracing solar energy, we make crucial steps toward sustainability, ensuring not only the power supply for our land but also a reduction in our environmental impact.

You can help us in implementing new solar systems by becoming a “Solar Supporter” donor and/or volunteer, and aid us in establishing an energy-independent and environmentally conscious space, benefiting both our land and community!

COST: $100,000

  • Gaining necessary permits and approvals to get install started

  • Selecting sizes of panels and racks for installation, cost per watt

  • Installing inverters, monitoring system, and energy/battery storage systems

  • Permits and other need documents for app

STEP 6: INSTALLING A SEPTIC TANK

The installation of a septic system is crucial for maintaining a clean and healthy environment on 'The People's Land.' This system ensures proper waste disposal, preventing environmental contamination and safeguarding the well-being of our community.

By supporting the installation of a septic system, you contribute to the sustainability and long-term health of the land, fostering a safe and hygienic space for all community activities.

You can help us do this by becoming a “Septic Sustainer” donor and/or volunteer.

COST: $20,000

  • Purchase of septic tank, average cost about $2,000 and up

  • Soil testing and excavating the land for tank installation

  • Ventilation system, pipe connections and distribution box installation

  • Permits and other needed documents for approval

STEP 7: GETTING TRANSPORTATION FOR OUR TEAM

By having a dedicated transportation solution, we streamline logistics, ensuring timely arrivals, efficient material transport, and a welcoming experience for guests eager to engage with and contribute to our shared vision. We need a 15 -passenger van, a truck, and 12 months of auto insurance to allow us to start traveling between Brooklyn and Enfield with staff, village members and gear to start working on our new land!

Your support in acquiring this van is instrumental in fortifying the infrastructure that enables us to efficiently and inclusively carry out our community projects.

You can become a “Connective Creator” to help us do this!

COST: $100,000

  • Van and truck for team travel and transportation

  • Acquiring auto insurance for 12 months averaging $1,000-$1,500 per month, per vehicle

  • Registration and licensing cost

STEP 8: HIRING EXPERTS & GETTING EQUIPMENT

We're raising funds to equip our village land stewards with essential tools, skills and funds, as well as hire community partners like the Brooklyn Builders Collective and other local experts to learn by doing! This strategic investment ensures the success and sustainability of our community initiatives, fostering the hands-on learning and mentorship we aim to always provide on The People's Land, while getting the work properly done.

Your support is instrumental in creating a space where knowledge exchange is as vital as the physical construction, creating a culture of continuous learning and community resilience.

To help us do this, you can become a “Skill Shaper” donor and/or volunteer!

COST: $300,000

  • Construction material and land care tools for land stewards, expert guests and volunteers to use

  • Labor cost for expert consultants and land stewards
