NuLegacy
“I think there’s a lot of healing to be done for Black and Indigenous people around land in New York and what has happened. Reconnecting to the land helps us heal from the trauma and atrocities of genocide and slavery.” -Chino Hardin
We are excited to announce that we purchased 20 acres of land in Enfield, New York. We are calling it “The People’s Land.” The land will be the site for The NuLegacy Center. The NuLegacy Center will allow people live, heal, and thrive in nature. We know that connection to land and nature disrupts the cycles of violence, fear, and trauma caused by the prison industrial complex.
We are forever grateful for the partnership with Chad and Tenah Dyer of Future Allies for making this purchase possible.
We will build The NuLegacy Center as a community, to include a retreat and education space, cooperatively owned housing, and farmland.
We will train everyone through the construction process on a variety of skills including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, land stewardship, and farming.
We will educate on the sacred history of this land, just minutes from the Harriet Tubman Home and in close proximity to dozens of sites on the underground railroad.
We will learn how our ancestors, through working towards liberation, became experts in food justice, environmental justice, and land and community sovereignty.
This work will open pathways for better appreciation of our liberation history, land reparations and land reclamation.
