“Knowledge is power.”

- Francis Bacon

Terrance Sumpter, Village Leader

Pronoun: He/Him

Terrance was born in Crown Heights but grew up in Bed-Stuy by Gates and Marcus Garvey. He is a risk-taker who loves knowledge. His mom is his inspiration because she is strong, independent and has a great reputation in the community - this is something Terrance wants to emulate because he values reputation and integrity as some of the most important character building qualities. His friends, family and inner circle matter most because of the relationship, trust and love over the years.  If he could give advice to his younger self, he would tell his younger self to be more patient and explore more.

Human Justice organizing experience has given Terrance a whole new way of looking at himself and the works.  It has made him more conscientious of what is going on around him in the neighborhood and the world in ways that are not just about caring but about understanding people and how things work.  Human Justice work and the Village Communiversity courses are inspiring him to be the best version of himself, even if he falters here and there.  Looping back to the things and people we care about is super important.
